I bought this elm as a pre bonsai last year, i attempted some trimming but I'm not sure about the tapering and the trunk line. After a bit of feedback. I have put it in a styro box to let it grow and try and fatten it up a bit.

You've done the right thing, I would wire it now and put some movement into the trunk and then let it thicken. Make sure u fertilise.

Hey guys,
I am going to do the same with a couple of trees with the Styrofoam box. How many holes in the bottom do you normally make for drainage?
Cheers!

Shoey91, I think you have done the right thing and your tree looks happy. It has some movement but if you want more now is the time.
Her8d, at least 8.

I picked up several styro boxes from my local grocers with holes already in the bottom of them. They seemed quite happy to get rid of them.

After throwing on a "bit" of wire on. I like this angle better for the front.
