well, im gonna go out on a limb here (no pun intended

) it actually looks a bit like the bottom of the pot has been cut out and the elm place in like that, you can sort of see the root mass just coming out the top.
other wise it was a root cutting like previously said and it has shot out suckers?

Jamie and Ken are close. The parent elm died long time ago. the new shoot must have come from the a piece of the old root system. It grows out from one of the drainage holes at the bottom of the plastic pot. It was given to me on Sat morning. I don't know what to do with it yet.

so either it is a root cutting or a sucker, you cant be quite sure ??

I think I will take it out if the pot and find out. If it was a clay pot or something nicer I would have kept it the way it is and just train it.
