Hey guys. I'm wondering if anyone has propagated maples through root cuttings?

I have tried a couple of times. They will stay alive for several years but do not grow any new shoots so eventually they die. Never say never. You should try some in case I did something wrong but I would not but any bets on.

As far as I know Maples will not grow from Root Cutting but I have seen roots 30 mm thick kept for two years in a plastic bag grafted into an old bonsai to improve its base and five years later its hard to tell where it was grafted in.
Drill hole into base (hand or slow speed) where required just larger than root diameter. Split one end of root and place something in to wedge open. Sharpen irregular like old lead pencil and jam in making sure cambium of root touches multiple times to hole drilled. Seal and keep root covered with Sphagnum moss. Have fun.
