i was asked a couple of weeks ago to go and do a small demo for the Cannonvale Bonsai Club about an hour and a half from my place.
I had been there recently and picked up a Casuarina that was sitting on one of the display benches, had a great trunk and some good age and I thought it was good beginner tree to pick up in a out of the way nursery like Cannonvale.
When I got it to the counter I was informed that is was owned by the owner of the nursery. (sounds pretty formal but I have known Irene (owner) for many years and she had grown it from seed 10 years ago.
Anyway we had a laugh and I said I would love to get my hands on it so the offer of a demo for the club was put forward.
Couple of weeks later I ventured back and did the demo. The owner was so chuffed at the transformation and my "plan" for the next 5-10 years on this tree she gave it to me as payment for the demo. Now I am chuffed.
The club is now coming down to my property to have a look at the bonsai collection tomorrow, for this I am also very excited.
anyhooo......it's been said before........to the trees.
This is the photo I received, doesn't show it but it has two huge competing trunks and therefore a huge inverse taper as well.

The idea was to show some carving and although the owner requested one of the trunks to be totally removed for the sake of the demo we left one on, will it come off in the future, hmmmm, maybe.
