Is it still OK to do an airlayer on a maple, or should I wait until next Spring?

Depends on where you are, what type of maple and size
if very large maybe not.

In Sydney on tridents yes should be fine to do and any small roots will not be hurt in our mild winter
Japanese if they are small I will try now
