So I have arrived home today, after quite a warm day, and all the foliage on my cuttings are all curled up and looking pretty beat up, are they done for or is there something I can do to rescue them? I can provide some pics if needed?

PJs are pretty tough. Dehydration will not have improved the chances of rooting but I'd just water them well, mist the leaves and
Also make sure they don't get dry again.
Next question is how did this happen? Cuttings should have good light but not direct sun. They also need humidity so usually we put a cover over them to hold the moist air.

That is a good question, I do believe they may have been in direct light too long, should I be moving them to a shaded area? Should I continue to cover or let them recover in the shade a little while?

PJ cuttings are among the easiest and can root without a cover to control humidity but they will do better with high humidity so a cover is usually beneficial. I would keep the cover on.
One of the side effects of a plastic cover is the greenhouse effect. Any heat is trapped and amplified by the cover so any warm sun can cook the cuttings. Good light levels are important but not direct sun, especially as it starts to warm up. A spot with indirect light will be best, otherwise try shade especially afternoon shade.

There are no real hard and fast rules. Cuttings root under a range of conditions. It is hard to advise because we don't know what conditions you have started with.

Would it be better to get a shade cloth or just move them to an area with more shade? I thought the spot it was in was good, but it must be getting the mid day sun

I have a pwrsprx box to propagate mine in. It is located under my benches and gets lots of light but NO direct sun

Under some trees or beench is agood place t ok grow if tou do nor have a green house

I have them set up in an old fishtank, I will try find a more shaded spot to move it to, to be honest I think i may be too late, but I will give it a try, for now I brought them inside as tomorrow will be 39 degrees, I will taeke them back out when it cools down tomorrow night
