Recently got a Adansonia digitata,...3 yrs old. Trying to connect with others that may be interested?
Nice thick truck, healthy.... what's my next step? It has a vert horizontal spread. I really need photos but it's pouring here.....

I really want to prune but it has a beautiful nature, seems a shame to cut back.

Finally figured out how to get a pic up. If you need a different angle let me know. It seems to have some really healthy branches and is thick for a 3 yr old. Would seem a shame to screw it up. Any help wanted. cheers people...

I saw a boabab tree at a local nursery and thought it would be an interesting project. Apparently they can handle harsh pruning. I also have a qld bottle tree i am working on and it is developing well, but the trunk is not quite as thick as yours here.

I think you've got the potential to make a really elegant tree

So I cut his bum off as Bob the boabab had a massive twisted huge root ball. No root structures at all. I got bob at a nursery as a 3 year old so after 4 years in a 16 inch pot I had to do something before his winter sleep. Wasn't pretty, saw cut all his roots off but for some of the best. He dropped all his leaves in a week and still looks ok. Fingers cross bonsai world if Bob will see next spring.

That is a nice looking tree for 3 yo,mine are little more than sticks at the moment.
I have been waiting for the night time temps to get a bit higher before I bring mine out and see if they wake up, the nights are ranging from about 10 to 14 deg C so I think it is a little too cool but starting to probably be warm enough inside where they are now.

I started off with 6 but have lost 3 due to rot as the nursery soaked them at the complete wrong time. I have one digiata, one gregorii and one rubrostipa. Fingers crossed they will wake up.

Good luck, mine is going into winter and has one leaf left, seems to be doing ok, I haven't watered it in a month or so, will post a few pics soon before the winter sleep.

Thanks, just looked up some images... looks like what I'm after, thanks again.

It's almost time for Bob to start growing again. No watering in the last 6 months, so once it gets a little warmer at night, i'll wait for a left then i know its watering time. I'll post some pic's if people are interested?
