Fertiliser to use on maples

Hi guys was at masters today and purchased some fertilisers provita Native and provita flower and Blossom. Currently I'm using the Brunings all purpose for everything low amounts every 3-4 weeks, but now with these 2 extra bottles might feed accordingly. So for my eucs, castilemon, melaluca I'll give them the native stuff, for flower and fruit trees (Apple Peach), Port Jackson fig, pomegranate, azaleas, roses I'll give them the flower and Blossom stuff and for my maples was thinking of sticking with the Brunings all purpose. Does this sound right?

Thanks
Tony

I use the same fert on everything :-)
Miracle grow and Charlie carp liquid and Neutrog Sudden impact on everything.

It is interesting that the fig is a native and does not flower but is going in the flowering fert section :?: note that figs do not care what fert they get, just so long as there's plenty of it.
The natives you have listed do not have any P problems so they won't care what sort of fert they get. If the callistemon and Mels are up to flowering stage they will usually flower better if they get a flowering type fert with higher K but it won't really matter which of those trees get any of those fertilisers.

I would probably say the all purpose would suit figs and maples and any of the others that are still growing and developing. Use flower and fruit fert when the trees are up to flowering stage but before that they will probably grow better with an all purpose.
Like Ken, I alternate between several different ferts to try to give my trees a broader range of nutrients.

Thanks Ken and Neil, next time I go looking for fertilisers will try and find the ones you mentioned. Sorry was under the impression fruits and flowers required same type of fertilisers and cause my port jackson fig had little figs I put it in with fruit and flowers category instead of native :palm:

I have mentioned this before, but Brunnings fertilizer is not a good fertilizer for bonsai.

You can speak to Clinton from Ray Nesci Bonsai nursery about it. He knows many customers who lost very old and valuable material from this product.

It usually dumps its fertilizer very fast and can be lethal for your bonsai. Its okay for shrubs/trees in the ground, but for bonsai, it killed many of mine in the past. In fairness I used it probably 3 years ago I think, but it was horrid. I had to flush the trees for hours when I realized what had happened.
When it becomes wet, it becomes almost soft in texture and can dump a lot of its contents in only a half hour / hour of watering sometimes.

Basically the slow release system is not slow enough and does significant damage to the root system.
Unless they've completely changed their product, I would strongly AVOID.

My point was not to make you feel bad, just to point out that not all native plants need 'native' fertiliser. Most are very happy, and even grow better, with standard fertilisers.
Also, plants cannot read so they don't really care what brand you use. All they really care about is the nutrients so most ferts are suitable.

My plants don't drink water much, but when they do, they ask for Perrier.

I suspect that is only Penninsular plants :P . Maybe they are tree changers? Bonsai in the bush have no such pretentions. Here, at Shibui Bonsai, they are happy to get anything at all :shake:
