I'm thinking it's a nutrient deficiency, maybe magnesium? (my current fert doesn't have any)

I'm certainly no expert... Alright I'm barely a novice... but I'd say you may possibly be on the money with your guess.

I believe having the discolour of the leaf but still having a green vein can offer mean a Magnesium deficiency.

Its an iron deficiency. Water with iron chelates. Fortnightly.
Could be caused by too much lime possibly leaching from pots or Alkaline soil.

I'm voting for Magnesium, but still looks too early to tell.

Epsom salts are cheap as anything, dilute a teaspoon in a litre of water and spray the foliage once a month during summer.

Iron deficiency also causes similar symptoms but the difference is in timing.

Young leaves that are yellow and grow out yellowed - more likely iron def.

Older leaves starting to go yellow while new growth remains green and healthy looking - more likely magnesium def.

Have you checked the pH of your medium, does anyone check their pH?

I was thinking maybe Manganese as this can appear below new leaves and is unavailable in potting media over pH six

Some of my deciduous trees start off like this in spring especially after repotting. Many nutrients are taken up at the root tips and if there are not enough nothing will help apart from waiting for roots to get going. You are probably better of using Plant Starter for the roots. There may be deficiency of Iron, manganese, magnesium, zinc or others all together at the same time. It usually disappears when you get consistent warm weather and the roots have developed properly when you can feed more.

Mate here's a couple of things you could try
- give it a nice drink of seasol/ charlie carp
- repot into a good quality potting mix into a plastic or terra cotta pot
These are some of things I do in this situation, particularly this time of the year, being spring. Everything is trying to grow at a hundred miles an hour
