Love Quince and yours are looking excellent Mike!

Have you got or know anyone with Chaenomeles speciosa 'Toyo Nishiki'?

Regards,
Steven

Hi Treeman,

I like your quinces - any advice on how to increase the trunk on them? I have a few quince twigs that don't seem to grow much at all!

Steven, I have toyonishiki but the problem with this cultivar is that it is a chimera (meaning it is composed of 2 different sets of DNA one red and one white) So, depending how much of one or the other is present in the propagation material, you can end up with mostly white or red in the plant. I suspect most cuttings were taken from the white/pink part again and again so the chances of getting a red flower is greatly reduced. I had a large plant of this which only threw white/pink flowers in 20 years. It is a very common complaint. I'm working on resolving the issue.......

You are not feeding and watering enough in the summer. Also, don't forget the sun!

Thanks,
I'll get on to it.
Mine probably don't get enough winter sun.

Treeman you are such a tease , that white speciosa looks like it has some great movement hidden in the dodgy photo . Mine are just starting to show buds .
