G'day,
It was a busy day today, as a mate of the missus has just had a knee operation and "has a bougainvillea that needs taking away". Cool, Im there already. When me and the missus arrived it was a case of they still wanted the tree but it needed pruning.

So anyway I went down under the jungle and discovered this:

After taking two loads to the dump I ended up with a few bits and pieces at home.

And as normally happens the bug bit and I found the following offcut. It has a base of 10 cm and the top is 6 cm, It is 2 cm tall. If it lives imagine the trunk profile!!

All I have to do now is try to keep them alive.

That looks like a whole lot of fun! Looking forward to seeing the progress of each of these. Especially in comparison to each other actually, that will be interesting.

I use powder or gel, depending on what I can find at the time. I was hoping to get a hold of some downward aspect branches so as to try a cascade, but alas no luck. There are a few big bougs around here. The main trunk of the one these cuttings are from was a good thirty cm and I cut the big piece 6foot above and parallel to the ground. I would have loved an azaelia, but they tend to die around here. So we use what is feral in our area

There's a nice Bougie in Bonsai Focus 100 this month, with a bit of history of its making.

Nice stock - I've been growing a bougs in my garden for 6 years and the trunk is so pathetically ugly I am not even tempted to try to dig it up or take cuttings. There's one down the street that has some nice branches with angles but it would be mucking up part of their front hedge to employ my saw near midnight. Another profuse flowerer in the back lane near me simply has nothing worth absconding with. You have had a good find and got some good material. Good on ya....
But I did, with permission, get a VERY nice azalea from a garden near me so I guess, as you say, it's get what's going around you.
