Hi guys. My cedar isn't looking great. I heard that those spots might mean a fungal problem.... Thoughts?

Hi there,
Post a pic of the whole tree as well, I'd like to see it's overall condition.
Soil pics would also help.
Doubt a fungus as I've not heard of Libani getting any sort of fungus - it's possible but just not likely in my experience.

Did you get frost or water on the needles before a hot day?

Yeah that definitely could have happened in summer...

In his defence, you didn't say
when it happened and seeing as we are now at the tail end of Autumn it wasn't an outlandish question. Your location of "Sydney" doesn't mention whether you live on the coast, or at the base of the mountains.

Hmm.. not sure but in Melbourne during Summer, I would water all my trees including my cedar but the needles remained a deep dark beautiful green. I honestly feel the issue is below soil level.
Pics of the soil surface (please clean of any debris so we can actually see the soil line heh heh heh) would help.
Also, when did this happen? That's a good question. Was it over the last couple of weeks?
Something to be weary of - Cedars are like Junipers in that the needles can be green for a long long time after the tree itself is dead. WORST CASE! Not saying this is what's happening here, but just prepare yourself emotionally.

Sorry my answer must have been misinterpreted. He doesn't need defending. That was a perfectly normal question and my answer was the truth. I wasn't trying to be smart or anything. I thought maybe I shouldn't have been watering the foliage on hot summer days and that's why he asked....
I should have given more details from the start.
I live right on the coast of Sydney. It's looked like this for quite a while. Probably since the end of summer I can't remember exactly when but it seemed to happen when I moved it into more direct all day sun.. I've since moved it back to where it gets direct morning sun only. I thought maybe it just had a bit too much sun but it hasn't seemed to make it any better. I repotted it about a month ago (probably not the best idea) I didn't take that much root. Maybe 30 percent max. It's not dead yet because it's very green when I scratch it.
I'll take more photos tonight.

There's your problem. It will probably be ok. Sometimes after a repot and root prune I've had cedars cast all their needles. Usually they come back, sometimes not. Keep it on the dry side over winter (very slight moisture only) and in full sun. and

My thoughts exactly, a slow release or seasol wouldn't hurt either in my experience. I purposefully repot my cedars mid Autumn, just seems to recover the next spring a lot better than if I repot in winter.
Cheers, good luck with it. Keep us posted!

I just pluck them out...Maybe I'm a dumby but they just look like shedding it's older pins.
If I got excited about a few dead ones I'd be posting all the time.
My idea may be way out but a little stress is all.
Steve.

It looks stressed to me what was the soil like before you repotted? Also what was the condition of the tree before repotting?
Cheers
