Name: Banksia ericifolia "orange glow".
Height: 1150mm
Cost: $20 (its pot bound so it was half price)
The plan is to start big and work my way down to shohin.
I appologise for the quality of the photos, but I promise they will improve as the comp progresses.

Even though I was a bit naughty with this one (I didn't update), I still tried to develop this as a shohin. And as such it is time for the progress through the year.

I am surprised and delighted by the growing power of this species. When I posted the previous up-date I did not post a couple of photos of the intervening period so I thought I would provide that now, together with the lasted photo.

Still growing and I am looking for a pot. Hopefully I will pot it this year and it will look OK

Well I might try to get this into shohin size by the end of the comp. Currently it stands about 36 cm so there is some work to do.

A bit of an update. I had a plan to reduce this to shohin but now its had a trim I quite like it as it is progressing. Still time to make a decision so stay tuned.

I forgot to mention that the pot is one of Mudlark - a Penny Pot.

This currently stands around 30 cm high so there is still quite a bit of work to do if this is to qualify as a shohin. I suppose I will need to make a decision soon?

Good job Watty,
When are you pruning, and how far back do you go? Also, are using clip and grow, or are you using wire?
Cheers
John

Hi John,
I prune this variety in the warmer weather, and I use both clip & grow and some wire - it depends on what I want to achieve.

Boy, this is getting out of hand. I know I've talked about it for a while but I really need to make a decision on if I intend to keep this as a shohin. The growth pattern makes it more and more unlikely, but stranger things have happened. In the hot weather it grows quite aggressively as you can see in the photos.

To be frank I've been a bit slack with this tree. I am yet to make up my mind if I want it to continue to be a shohin, or let it grow a little larger than that. There will be no work on it for a few moths now so a decision needs to be made, but I have just a little time.
