This is a self sown peach that i did an areal layer on in begining of july just before i joined ABC. Unfortunately i did not take progress photos as at the time i had no idea to do such a thing.So now id like to share with you all and maybe get you all inspired to try it. First pic is of the roots that have grown on the scored branch, and before i disconected the branch from the tree. Now not sure if i have to prune. your thoughts welcomed.

hey petra. i got no experience with air layers but i presume you would leave whats there because you are trying to develop the roots. unless the tree gets to full of foliage where the roots couldnt supply the tree with enough nutrients, then i would prune. but as i said i got no experience with it so maybe some one else could help you, and clear my thoughts up on this too?

Thats awesome, such strong roots. I've been getting into layering too. I'm letting my ones grow out abit so i know there healthy and strong, maybe light prune in fall. Layering is interesting there's so many ways to do it and all the ones i've tried have worked so far. It's such a good way to get a really fat looking tree in a short space of time.

Easy to do isnt it, and you will have a fine tree when it takes off after potting up. Keep looking after it and do nothing till next winter.
What diameter was the Branch?

Hi Petra , very nice layering job .I usually trim the foliage several weeks prior to removing from the parent tree . Now that the layer is severed the roots "must" be able to feed the canopy .If it was mine i would have a design in mind a lightly trim all over to a bud required or if there was an unsightly branch i would only remove that particular branch .

Grafted trees have vigorous under stock or root stock , layers tend to struggle a little with their own roots .I noticed the roots are still quite white and fleshy so they are still developing .Hope this helps and good luck with your new tree .Cheers

Good on ya Petra!! Nows a good time to design your tree and plan its future. Did you lay the roots out radially so they can grow outwards and form a good nebari?

Roots were layed out flat, they were quite flexiable, thought they would snap off.As fleshy as they look they were quite strong. I placed a small tile beneath them also.

This was only a small branch it is 1 1/2cm thick. Nothing to get too excited about.Since i started with all the other layerings they are much thicker,from 4cm to 6cm and more.Ill see how they faired.
