Is my Chinese elm supposed to be like this?

I'm not sure at all but to me (a very very inexperienced gardener in general) the roots of this Chinese elm look too far out of the ground.

The elm Roots are OK but the one on the left in the green Pot sure ain't
Roots can be exposed happily enough, but if they are you will find that they do not thicken and build a decent nebari very well.
Usually we keep[ the Nebari covered until formed well enough to display.
