Angophora hispida

Angophora hispida grows in scrub around Sydney, a smallish tree in poor conditions. Mine has just flowered, probably because I've let it grow too long, to thicken it.

The first flowers have already started to form gumnuts.

The young shoots are beautifully coloured, with red hairs.

The trunk is plain at the moment, but I'm promised "greyish flaky bark" one day.

It seems to be resilient, if you give it good drainage and full sun. Repot in the hot weather. I got mine from the Forestry nursery in Castle Hill. Pup has shown that you can reduce Angophora leaves quite remarkably, but of course you won't get flowers then. Probably best as a large tree.

Well worth growing.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I haven't had mine long but they are quite hardy, and lovely colours to it. I'll have to post a pic sometime when I get round to it.
