Liquidambar - getting it to back bud

Hey guys I have a liquidambar and desperately need it to back bud along some key branches where growth is only at the very tip of a long branch. I have read that snipping a bit of growth of the tips is the way to go but in my case in some places only have like one cluster of leaves on the tips. So my question is, how much should I be taking off? as I don't Wana cause die back.
Any help would be great, thanks.

Hey LandG...Just type in Liquidamber in the search bar & start reading the posts...there's quite a few with different information. Here's one that I found for you to start with.

Never had much issue trying to get them to back bud, just they never do it where you want :-) :palm:
cut back hard and leave them a little longer than you wish to cater for the die back and after you get buds, cut back to them

total defoliation can cause it to bud in areas you need.
