What has happened to my trident maple?

Left my maple with a friend over the weekend to water while i was away but when i got it back yesterday the leaves are orange in colour compared to the redish/green and very dry like instead of soft to the touch.
the leave stems were red but are now brown.
Could it be dead?
The tree is probably 2yrs old i think (got given to me in July).
Any help and advise would be extremely appreciated!
I'd put a pic up if i only knew how.

Doesn't sound good.

You need to reduce your photo size first then upload.
There is a thread which discusses many options to successfully upload.

Scratch a bit of the bark and let us know if there is any green underneath?

If it was previously healthy I'd suggest soaking the whole pot in a bucket of water for 15 mins as your first step, sounds to me like it's been cooked by the heat and dehydrated.

What else has been done to it? Only asking as the pebbles are a different colour in the pics.

It was quite root bound when i got it so I gave it a bit of a root prune, re angled it.

The root prune was just over a month ago. Wasn't a heavy cut back, left about a 50-70mm circumference of root spread & the root ball was left alone. Fed it some type of fertilizer that it came with when it was given to me. I water it most afternoons unless its a hot forecast where it gets a drink in the morning.

I always find myself laughing at Brians comments, mainly because I read the comment whilst looking at his avatar.

Tragically bad indeed. Thanks Brian :tounge: . I just scratched the trunk & It's still green underneath. Hoping that's a good sign? :fc:

Yeah that's always a good sign. They're tough and might bounce back. What is your plan for it? You wanting to keep it in that pot, or grow it out to get some trunk definition?

Not sure what direction to go as I'm new to this & only owned it for a little while. I'll get to the workshops next year for more guidance & such.
