Hi guys,

As all you Melbournian's know we are going to be having some lovely 100km/h winds tomorrow, so make sure you all take care of your trees!

While the winds are up I'm going to be moving my trees to a more sheltered position so I don't find them down the street (mine currently reside on my roof outside a second story window).

While they are moved I was considering spraying a Mortein style, barrier protection surface spay (the kind that lasts 6 months).

Just wondering if anyone has sprayed their benches with this before, as I have been noticing more ants and other pests beginning to explore my bench of late. Wondering if this would have any adverse effects on my trees when placed back on the bench after spraying?

Anyone's personal experiences or opinion's with these types of products would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Pearcy.

I don't think it will effect your trees but I also don't think it will last very long in an outdoor wet environment.

Personally I don't like using blanket approaches to pest control - you kill beneficial organisms as well as the nasties, then the nasties are the first to come back to fill the void.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been noticing a number of ants around my Pots and scaling my trees that seem to be slowly increasing in numbers.

I am unsure if they have begun to infest a pot that I am not aware of? Originally I saw one or two each night, but tonight I killed a bunch across a few different trees.

Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Pearcy.

Its usually a sign of scale on your trees. Check your trees carefully. Scale can be removed by hand or by a spray with a product like Confidor.

Agree with Watto I do. Where you find ants you usually find scale. You can use white oil as well or a systemic to get rid of them.

One of the most sensible posts I have read on this forum in a long time.
