Collected Eucalyptus

Hi everyone,
Pretty new around here, and to bonsai itself, something I've always been fascinated with but never tried.
I collected this nice little (well maybe not so little) from a friends property and really didn't think it would survive. Last Saturday I noticed a few new buds shooting through (it had no foliage at all) and this is it now, just over a week later. The tips of the leaves got a bit of a sizzle from Hedlands hot past few days.
I don't know whether I should shorten it up a bit now, or let it recover further before reducing the size. Or just leave it as it is? Interested to hear what you all think
Cheers!

Nice find mate!
If it was me, I would just leave it for a season to let it settle in. From what I've heard about Port Hedland (from Elmar) is that it is a hot dry place, so I would err on the side of caution. Then again, I don't know anything about Eucs apart from loving the smell of their crushed leaves. Pretty sure I was a koala in my past life...
Unless you can dig a few more for experimental purposes.

That's what I was thinking also Jared, thanks mate.
Keeping it alive will be my first goal. Styling and shape can come later

Many Eucs have two growing seasons spring/early summer and winter which is the main growing season, if you were to prune it up a bit it would be best to do it in the mid to late summer or the hottest part of summer they tend to go into dormancy then, I would also leave it for a bit and let it recover.
Nice find! do you know what kind of Euc it is? It kind of looks like a Viminalis

I think it might be a Snappy Gum - Leucophloia

I think you right, they are quite endemic up your way, they are really nice Eucs.

Nice find

Love the bark colour
I'd personally let it settle for a little bit before getting stuck into styling it. Let it grow for a couple of months and settle, then when the right season comes around, look into styling

Yeah that's what I'll do, get it nice and healthy before I look to repot and start to style it
