Just noticed these bags of diatomite on Ebay, located in Sydney.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/20kg-Organic ... 6016.l4276
It doesn't mention particle size but it might be worth sending the seller a message.

Hi ... Haven't used this product before as a soil medium...Does it change the PH of the Soil or is it neutral...? Was just wondering if this brand of product is suitable for Bonsai...? Checked out the Ebay Site and in the Item description it says that its a 100% Australian Made & produced Organic Product that can be used for the following.

Pets - Sanitary carpet for pet boxes/kennels NB change frequency.
•Oil Drip Tray - For carports & garages
•Organic Gardens - Use in breaking up clayey soils.
•Snail Deterrent - A safe garden snail deterrent, acts by dehydrating the snail after it has been in contact with a porition of the granules.
•Potting Mix - Mix with potting compost for aeration and moisture retention.
•Landry - Accidental spillages absorbed quickly.
•Garbage Bins - Will help deodorise refuse. ideal when used with Castrol disinfectant.
•Cellars - Assists removal of dampness.
•Aquariums - For use as an inert nontoxic filtration material.

Didn't Know that it had so many uses. Would this brand be suitable for Bonsai...?

Here's the pic Below

If suitable I please let me know... as I wouldn't mind purchasing some and giving it ago in my mix.

It does not say where it is from so cannot vouch for its usefulness.

Kleensorb is a known product and I have been using if for years now. Therewas a batfh last year that was soft and turned mushy and thos bags were replaced. This product will have no support like that.

If you do try it, Soak it in water for at least a week or 2 before potting into as that will let you know if it will stay hard over time.

It is supposed to have a high PH, but in practice as a potting substrate, I do not believe that to be an issue at all.

ps, Kleensorb is available from Enfield produce for $23 per 35L bag, so for us in Sydney, a real no brainer.
