I purchased this a long time ago from Dicksonia's rare plant nursery for the sole purpose of layering. It has NEVER shown me its potential until now. It rewarded my patience with a stunning colour display this Autumn and has given me several interesting branches to layer. It will now go into the ground to grow on and become part of the Autumn display every year at "Bodhidharma'. Hopefully layering will be successful and give me some nice "Potensai"

What lovley colour

How big is the entire tree? largish i suspect.

My 'waterfall' has also colored up really well this year Bodhi. Must be the year for them.
for the layers to do ok. Most of these cascading cultivars do not grow well on their own roots but if it can be done I'm sure you will be the one

Just discovered that when I took a photo of my gingko today I also got a couple of the weeping maples as background. The gingko is just about full color today which is why I took the picture. Immediately behind the gingko is A. palmatum 'Bene Shidare' - red leaves. Behind that and slightly further left you can make out the A. palmatum 'Waterfall' with the orange and yellow leaves like Bodhi's.
To the right is a weeping cherry which I think is 'Snowfall'.

I have grown and grafted all those weeping standards. I don't have any spare 'Waterfall's but there are several 'Bene Shidare' standards available for sale if someone wants any. I also have a few more of the weeping cherries in the grow beds. All are grafted at around 1.8m tall.
Delivery might be an issue though. They are a bit big for the posties to carry around.

So nice to have all that colour Shibui! We have been VERY windy and took out most of the leaves. I have a few protected ones as you can see.

Red, purple, yellow what a place to wake up to and sip on a morning brew!
