On a club trip recently to Orient Bonsai Nursery Simon, the owner, caught me eyeing some small Shimpaku Junipers and herded me to the back where Chinese master Zhi Ping Song had styled the same stock a few days earlier. Inspired, I gave them a go.

Teejay I like the start but there is always one. The parent and child ( as they do have had a falling out ) the parent should be leading the child in the right direction.
Like they are walking together. Also the movement of the trunk, should be reflected in the branches for more harmony.
The trunk has curves so should the branches. JMHO Pup

So, in your opinion, I should move the child towards the left more? There's not a lot of room over there and I don't want to crowd the parent. Does moving the top suffice, or must it be from the base?

If Pic two is your front the child needs to go to the right. The shapes of both should be about the same no branches to close over the apex of the child. The child is the youngest so your first branch should be from there also when you style this one you aim for one silhouette, with a bit ( a bit not a yard between them ) space between so that the child gets some sun. towards the front of the parent or slightly to the rear. No, I think I get what you're saying. Baby should be closer to mumma, under her protection and not running away from her like I do from mine ( Maybe that's why I did it like this). Baby has first branch, being the youngest, and is positioned either forward or to the rear. Correct?

I'll wack some heavy wire on baby when I get home tonight and see what it looks like (any excuse to start wiring again).

YaH got it . After looking at Mr Songs tree's the first one might have been what you were after. That is the begining of a semi cascade I would say.

There was a threat of it, but I think he is still annoying Leigh in Canberra Some one mentioned picking up tree's and I said to ask him to share costs.
But I don't think he offered if it cost money the little S#*t cry's of and says I am only a Student

It was techpetal from Bangor in NSW said they would pick up what was not wanted. To feed there addiction so I suggested they pick you up to share the cost.
