Hey guys! I'm new to the forum and just have a few couple to ask about my new Ginkgo

I've received this Ginkgo as a Christmas present and as it is my first type of Ginkgo, i haven't had a lot of expericence with them and do not know what they really require.

For starters, I would like to know more about the maintenance of the plant generally if its okay to Cut the leaves that are out of shape and also if these trees require high amounts of water or not?

Kind reagrds

Hi there
Ginkgos don't require more water than other trees. They are a bit sensitive to strong sun on the hot day, which will bleach or burn the leaves. When that happens, they take defoliation quite well. I'd usually feed couple of weeks prior to defoliation to prepare the tree to better respond to the treatment. They take a Long time to build branching structures and they are usually wired upward to resemble flame like structure.

Welcome to the site and I thank your friend or family for the purchase.

Hi friend! Thanks for the reply i actually brought the bonsai from one of your stalls in Northland.
What would be a good food product to feed with and when?

hi Fredgrech1
i mixed osmocote and bloood and bone in my potting mix when i repot. and i liquid feed with seasol plus powerfeed every 6 weeks or so from Spring to Autumn. i found that if i start feeding too often and too soon, i tend to get lots of elongated strong growth that i don't particularly want. so i think on a more established tree in the refinement stage, feed well(every two weeks) after mid summer til autumn. that way the trees store up lots of vigour for the following year.

regards

Tien
