Wisteria rescue

HI Everyone,

Looking for some advice please on this Wisteria. I dug this up over 12 months ago as I found it in the dark corner of the house I was renting looking very sick.

I've had it in this grow box since then and pretty much just left it alone.

It doesn't seem to have put on much in the way of new roots as it feels quite lose in the soil still and I'm reluctant to pull it out to have a look. I was going to wire the only Branch it has to try to get some early movement but noticed that there is quite a bit of Rot in some locations around the Base and the stump itself has soft Dry rot where it has been cut back so many times.

I'm not sure if I should be;

1. Just leaving it to hope it gets some more strength before doing anything.
or
2. Removing it from the grow box and cleaning up all the dry and wet rot around the base (trying to not damage the roots)

3. Same as two but Carving deeper / taking more stump out as the only leader starts quite low..

I'm thinking the Mix it is in might not be doing it any favors either so was thinking of potting it up with a more course mix of my own.....

I just don't want to kill it !!!! Hope you can see a little form the Pictures.

Thanks
Rick

Free draining mix and lots of water.
I have mine in Diatomite / zeolite and they thrive.

It flowered justs recently.. only one flower but that was impressive considering. I took photos at the time but I lost them with a phone crash  !!

I recently repotted into this very nice pot that My Neighbor made and Gave to me.

Was some very healthy roots.

So some rest and recovery and then i'll try to give it some more shape and maybe attempt to clean up / Carve a bit of the dead wood.

Looking healthy.
I would clean out any deadwood and paint the expaose bits with Earls wood hardener to preserve it.
