Found this on my soil, small, clear except for a black line down it's guys which I'm presuming is dirt it's been eating. Anyone able to tell me what it is, and are the beneficial or harmless? Or nastys?

looks like gnat larvae. Google for images.

Yeah, I get a heap of them. They won't do anything to established plants but can be a big problem for seeds and cuttings trying to get started. Fungus gnat larvae wiped out most of my cuttings this year. They breed in the top few cm's of damp organic soil

Cheers both, so an insectacide or something? Any u recommend? Most seem to be sprays and such for leaf bugs

A Confidor drench should help.
