Hey Everyone

well spring has come and nearly gone! Uni has kept me to busy and I have not repotted any of my trees

is it too late to repot, juniper, evergreens in general, azalea, pyracantha (about to fruit) and indian hawthorn

Also! i purchased some diatomite a month ago from enfield, but it was terrible ( and yes i have read the discussion on here about the topic) i have contacted the manufacture and am about to send a sample. is there another source of diatomite in Sydney? what are others doing? if it becomes to much of a hassle I may end up switching to rays mix.

Which one did you get. They sell to grades out there at Enfield. Kleensorb is the small one I think?

Azaleas seem to repot quite safely all through the warmer months. I seem to recall something about repotting after flowers which is now anyway.
I think there is much more latitude to repotting times than we have been led to believe. I repotted a trident maple in full leaf a week ago and it has not looked back. Some very experienced growers around Melbourne have been repotting Cedrus in midsummer with better success than winter repotting.
Success may depend on how much root you remove at different times of the year? More work needed to test the reality of this.

And possibly depending on the aftercare available shibui?

Add to that I think the younger they are, the more forgiving and tolerable they are. Certainly are various factors to consider to reduce the risk .

Throw in your post care service to the mix and you may be able to pull a rabbit out of the pot

Azaleas should be fine ( I am doing mine now too).
The others should be OK as long as you do not take off too much root IMHO. be less aggressive than normal.

Re diatomite. let me know how you go getting replacement:-(.
I still have old stock and do not know what i am going to do when i need to get more. Enfield os the only supplier I know of in sydney

Repotted a mature plum three days ago and it did not miss a beat. A hard repot too. i am also doing Juni's at the moment.

Thanks bodhi, not forgetting that it is milder there this time of year is it not?.
In Sydney we have already had 40 deg days and predicted to get hot again this weekend.

Regarding repotting out of season, I want to change the potting angle of a juniperus squamata and was wondering if that's something I can do at the moment or if I have to wait for next winter?

I repot mine all year round though I avoid peak summer.

Aftercare helps imo

You should fall into the habit of re-potting at the optimum time.
Deciduous and conifers late winter or early spring, most natives in summer azaleas soon after flowering.
But you will get to know your trees and your climate over time.
The biggest mistake you could make is, not re-potting because someone said it is the wrong time of year. A pot bound tree with very little soil might not survive a harsh summer.

Thanks guys, I adjusted the angle while trying to disturb the roots as little as possible. It's now under 30% shade and will stay there for a week or 2
