Hi all, first off I just want to say i don't post pics of trees on here very often because I don't have any decent trees just a bunch of stock trees that will hopefully become something one day. I've basic used the clip and grow method to get to this stage with some initial wiring of the skeleton in the early stages of growth.
The story behind this tree is I when to a club members dig on a private patch of land at his garden club. I had trouble finding the place and as a result I arrived late to find most of the trees had been dug up and this poor bugger was sitting one of the last ones left reluctantly I took it home. This is where I'm at after 2 years

Repotted mid spring and vigor has been slow as a result, As of today 30th October 2014 still some filling out to do, just starting to shoot new buds now after a late repot.
Will spend some time in a shaded area for now

Not a bonsai yet but getting there I think

Great progression, looks like quite an elegant tree so far.

Have you been considering a pot for it? Maybe next time you repot... What's your plan going forward?

Just a question, as I said I root pruned and repotted pretty late this year. I've have put it in the shade next to a juniper with spider mite and I have noticed my elm has spider mite now too.... Is white oil ok to use on elms? I really don't want to do anything to stress it anymore than I have, it lost a few leaves after the repot and I know spider mite sucks energy from trees

I was planning on giving it another growing season or two in the black pot, my plan is to thicken the pads a little more and compact the top section a little more with wire whilst keeping this shape I guess
What sort of pot would you all suggest....being quite new to bonsai I don't really know, perhaps a brown round Matt finish pot of some sort ...... Thoughts

Nice looking elm. Coming along nicely. Not sure about spray but I spray white oil once a month on a cooler weather forecast and have had no probs apart from earwigs. Damn basterds

Now just wondering what sort of pot I should put it in eventually..... I was thinking a round pot, brown with a matte finish

Tree as of today, looking healthy and shooting new growth like crazy
Chinese elms are fast becoming my new favourite tree
I'll try and keep the updates to a minimum, really doing this more so for my own personal records and hoping to get a few tips along the way

I like this tree and I reckon you have risen to the challenge, it's turning into a beauty!. I notice nobody has put in their on pot selection but I like your thought train on a matte brown finish oval arrangement - for me this would suit nicely. I will now add I too have little to no idea but that is the beauty of opinion - everybody can have one!
