Hey guys and girls......

I went crazy over the last few years germinating JBP seeds. Now I have a problem of not enough space as each time these are potted up they require more space (Derr )

They are 2-3 year old from memory some of which have had some movement wired into the trunk.

I am not selling these for profit, however I would like to move some on to people who will appreciate both how hard JBP seed can be to come accross and the fact that I have watered and fertilised these for 2-3years and potted up into a mix of diatomite/zeolite/pine nuggets but the question is........What should I ask for these?

I have my local show coming up in a couple of weeks, and have been asked by a few members how much I am selling for these for.

Any advice is appreciated

What sized pots? Probably they are worth $5-15 each.

3", and 4" I think?

Well done, try to sell them to Bunnings, with the right label on them. Only joking. If there is a hint of training, you could get $15 for them. I would pay that. Without a bonsai pot of course.

I would look at what bonsai nurseries are selling similar size stock for then maybe knock off a dollar or two to get them off your hands. Or you could do the old $5 each or 5 for $20 sort of special

Ray nesci Sells his 2 year old ( I think) starters fro $3, 3 year ones for I think for about $12 or so.

Pick the best ones to keep and move the others on for $1-2 a tree, then the fert and water budget for this year can go to more deserving recipients.

I sell my JBP 3 years old for $15 - $30 depends on character/ features and how much work/ wiring went into it!

The best ones I always keep for myself!!

Wow $1-$2 per tree?!?!

I was thinking $5-15 each depending. They are only worth what people are willing to pay so I will soon find out at the coming show. If I have to keep training them for another year then so be it.

Start high and you can always lower the price if they aren't selling

Depends on your local market, but if nurseries sell starters at $3-5, you'll probably struggle to match that.

I germinated around 300 a few years ago, picked what I thought had the most promise and gave the rest to the local club to sponsor a JBP seedling project. I'd rather focus on 20 then struggle to maintain them all. My primary motivation was moving them on not profit.

Try $5 and see where you get to.

I don't know of any nurseries in SA that sell JBP seedlings, so I can't really guage but if we had nurseries here that sold starters for $3-5 I wouldn't have bought the seeds to begin with.

Luke I know that last year at the show they had what they called a Kids table, where all the trees were $5. I remember buying a little Ash forest in a little bonsai pot there (the pot was maybe an inch high by 10cm long). I remember Bonsai Tree Gardens had some Japanese maple (maybe a couple of years old) for around $10 a while back. I reckon have a snoop around at what else is there when the sellers are setting up and have a peek at the prices, you'll probably have a better idea then [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]
