Yamadori NQ Style

So as I may have mentioned I get around my neck of the woods, NQ, a fair bit and constantly get out of the car to go on creek walks and bushwalks, sometimes the bonsai gods smile on me, sometimes the rock gods.
Around April or May of 2013 I spied this gorgeous thing literally bobbing up and down in a creek bed. This is about two hours drive from my place so I headed home and about two or three weeks later packed up the necessary tools and anyway have a look

and after 12 months,

Lots of planning will go into this tree before the next step, but the next step will sculpting the deadwood branches at the top to a river-swept style and of course developing the rest of the tree to suit.
any ideas would be of assistance
hope you enjoy

How much root did you have with the original collection?

Good luck! The base shape on your tree will be well worth the effort! Ash

Thanks for the interest
Dansai, surprisingly very little root came with the collection. I mention it was bobbing up and down in the water, very little was holding it to the ground, one more flood and it would have been elsewhere I am sure of it.

Loving it!
Couldn't see what you saw initially (new guy!

) but I can see something I would like to develop now that you have grabbed it!
Will be watching with interest!

Great base indeed. The top is going to make you think... There's a smaller Callistemon at the NBPCA rescued from a supermarket demolition that has spiky deadwood all over it - it looks very good indeed. Great potential in this one - please keep posting.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys.
Yes "spiky" deadwood is my plan, might sit down and do a few sketches beforehand just so I get it right.
Will certainly keep posting

Gotta say Calis always surprise me with how tough they are.
Dug one up a few months ago with practically no root, at a bad time, and it wasn't the healthiest. Dropped all its foliage and I thought it was dead for sure... Too lazy to throw it out and sure enough, it's pushing new buds all over now.
This is going to be a very nice tree and will be enjoyed for generations. Well done mate you've a good eye there haha.
Cheers for sharing,
Mo

Just an update, have had this pot laying around for years and of course got a tree that would suit it now so the two are together.
A little more wire, a little more carving, a little more waiting.
