Hi guys been wondering what these trees are for a long time and have wondered how they would suit as bonsai.
They get this great vibrant foliage at times if the year.
Any help would be awesome.
Thanking you!

Looks like a conifer of some kind, it's evergreen, and has scale like not needle foliage. Have you tried Googling tree identification sites? The bark is also an indication. Good luck.

YEs I too would think it's some sort of Callitris.

According to what I have seen and some of Grant's posts they make wonderful Bonsai.

G 'Day Joelham,
Yes, this tree is most definately a Callitris Collumenaris or otherwise known as Bribie Island Pine/Coastal Cypress.
I hail from Macleay Island situated in the Southern Moreton Bay and our bush is full of these trees.
At present I have a project on the boil with the attempt of airlayering quite a large example of this species. photo supplied.

Joelham,
Re your comments on digging up some seedlings, I have been successful with that action, but wait until spring and make sure there is plenty of rootball with the tree.
Here are some pics of one I've dug up.

Awesome Brian. That air layer looks massive, can't wait to see how that one turns out.
Do you know if they can be trunk chopped? Do they bud back on old wood.
Excited about this new discovery!

Have you had a look at the ones in Bruns Joel? Some have the natural twists, turns and deadwood we aspire to with our Junipers. I've been curious of the species as there are a number of seedlings near my house in Ocean Shores.

Hi nigel. Yes I have seen them. I really like the species.
I'm relatively new to the forum, cool to get in touch with someone close by.
Ohh and looks like we share the same last name.
Let me know how you get on with your seedlings. I'm on the hunt

Yes Joelham,
They do shoot back on old wood. If you have a close look at the last photo of the collected tree you will notice all the new shoots on the trunk.
None of these shoots appeared until I applied the wire and reshaped the tree.
They can be trunk chopped.
Good luck with it.....Brian
