I have just discovered hidden love for Bonsai Art and Junipers in particular. I am in possession of Privet and Fig trees that were gifted and just let be for a while. I am looking for someone who is looking to separate ( aka sell ) Juniper Bonsai from one`s collection and share bit of knowledge about Juniper & my other 2 fellows. I am :reading: through online info on Bonsai, but :lost: would like to meet someone and talk about it in person.

Hey mate,

Welcome to the site, and the addiction that is bonsai! :tu:

You can get junipers from a few different places, however if you're wanting to use them for bonsai, I'd reccomend buying them from a bonsai nursery, of which we have a few of in Perth

Here is a link to the Ausbonsai directory, which will show you all the nurseries in Perth (just click on the red marker to see each one): https://www.ausbonsai.com.au/directory/? ... ocation=10

If you're wanting to learn more about the art, then the best way would be to join a club, we have three in Perth (one focused only on Azalea's) and they are all really great places to start learning. I've been a member for just over a year now, and am loving it, great people who all share the same interest :) There is a beginners course coming up, and during the second half of the course, you will create your own tree, usually from a juniper, so that is worth a look too :)

Let me know if you need any more details, and I'll be happy to help :aussie:

Cheers,
Jason

Hi Jason,
Thank you for your reply. I have been looking at Bonsai classes, but have hard times choosing. I struggled to find reviews or comments from participants. I am liking what Bonsai Palace has to offer, probably due to detailed description of classes on their page and variety of it as wel. At the same time Bonsai Emporium seems like a place where people know what they doing :D I am being torn apart here. I always prefer to get some feedback before booking/buying anything ( all hail to the power of mighty internet :worship: :) ) Have you been to any of these places or knew someone who went and left satisfied.
Sending membership application to Bonsai society today. So excited :tu:

Mate, do yourself a favour and head up to Bonsai Emporium in West Swan. Peter and Michelle are lovely people and he does classes also. me and my wife took a beginners class a few years back and we had a blast. He has Juniper growing in the ground and in bags, so you can wander through his stock and choose what you like. I live in Australind, and I take the 2 hour drive with total excitement. I cant wait to get there.
Peter told me once, Bonsai starts as a hobby, and becomes an obsession. A truer word has never been spoken...

Hey Anya,

No problems! I've done a few lesson's and courses, so am happy to share my experiences.

I did my first lesson at the bonsai palace, and whilst it was good, it was very brief and only covered the basics. Liana only has a small stall at the E Shed markets, and the lesson is done there at the side of her stall.
I've not done a lesson at the Emporium, but know Peter well through my club and can say that I'm sure that lesson would be great. He knows a lot, as does his staff, and I've also heard that the course is great (as Raymond has also said).

However, the best course/lesson I have done, was through the Bonsai Society, it goes for a full day, with the first half of the day dedicated the theory, and the second half is basically a workshop, where you put all that theory into practice and create your very own tree, with the assistance of one of the members of the club. The course is great, so much so that I've been to two now, and am contemplating a third :P There is one coming up on the 22nd of September, so if you want any details regardign that, I can happily send them through. I'll probably be there myself lending a hand, if I'm not participating :P

I hope that answers some of your questions, but let me know if you need anything more :)
