Hi all,

Since getting my first Bonsai, I have been looking everywhere to find inspiration. I saw the Bougainvillea Bonsai on here and have completely fallen in love with them. Naturally, every flowering tree is catching my eye now!

This tree has been growing (and annoying me) for years, leaving flowers all over my car and coming over the fence all the time. I would love to know what it is, and if I can make a cutting, would it make a decent Bonsai?

Hahahaha! Hilarious! Can you believe I spent the whole morning going to the local nurseries trying to find one!?

Now that I've found one, what is the best way to get a cutting and get it to grow?

I love your style They are quite common, you'll probably start seeing them everywhere soon

I'll leave the details to the more knowledgable people, but I do know they strike very easy from cuttings.

Take a cutting of the woody stem. Coat with rooting hormone of choice.
Place into a Container of stiriking mix, and cover ( Try a Cutting tray / greenhouse from Bunnings)

Leave in dappled light and wait

Its a nice one too, I like the purple flowers. The one I'm digging in spring is white

PROPAGATION: Softwood cuttings in early Spring, semi-ripe cuttings in Summer, air-layer in Autumn or Spring.

Best time for cuttings is when it is warm...Easy to root just plant in very coarse soil...I use washed sieved river sand. Meanwhile you can style a branch on the tree in preparation for cutting it. Airlayer do well too.

Thanks for the pictures! Those look a fair bit thicker than the tree I have to work from, but I will give it a go anyway! Thanks again!

Dont forget you are going to create branches and ramification, so it will look similar.... But this is a Pixie bougie. The thicker the better for the bonsai...Then you dont need to waste years growing trunks.
