[ID] any ideas?

Hi all

I have this tree which is growing within a low hedge in my garden. We only moved in to the house a few months ago so I have no idea when it was planted or what it is. I want to pull it out as it is not doing very well, but I thought it might be a candidate for a bonsai - the trunk seems pretty straight and tapers reasonably well so I thought perhaps a formal upright of sorts (it's coming out anyway so I thought I'd give it a go). Anyway, I'd like to know what sort of tree it is (and is it worth trying to develop as a bonsai)?

The ruler in the photos is a standard 30 cm ruler (divisions are cm). Overall the tree is about 1.8 m high. Ignore the shape as it's been trimmed into a triangular pyramid shape by the previous owners. I have not seen it flower, but we haven't been in the house very long.

It is one of the Syzgium ( Lilly Pilly's) they do make decent bonsai, given the right treatment. There are plenty on this site.

Thanks for the ID...much appreciated.

I'll chop the trunk back about two thirds of the way and leave it in the ground to recover a bit, then perhaps dig it out in about 6-12 months time. I'll give it a feed too as the leaves look a bit yellow.
