It's that time of year with styling season for conifers moving into full swing. Here is another black pine I have just finished working on for a customer. It's taken a while as we have been getting some long deserved rain of late and as I dont have an undercover work area I had to fit in around the showers. As a result it took longer than expected but I think the result is still a good one and I am happy it is leaving my garden with a bright future. Interesting to note that it had begun to form a lot of new buds after in the time between removing the old needles and finishing the styling (about two weeks).

After a small angle change, some bending of the first branch to account for the new front and general compaction of the canopy its ready for the next season of growth.

I really need an undercover workshop and a decent photo setup.... but in the mean time ill have to make do with working outside and you guys and girls will have to make do with the marginal quality pictures I post. Ah well.....

On to the next one.......

A really nice job Joe Not sure about the jin sticking out the top though? Is that being left as a tie point or a part of its design?

Currently part of the design as it is connected to a large section of dead wood on the rear of the tree and to remove it completely could leave a strange transition in that area. It has been halved in size from when i begun and as dead wood is easy to remove and difficult to put back i like to chip away at it slowly. It could probably be reduced a little more but i think that decision can wait until the foliage fills in some more as no doubt this will change the relationships.

I love the hanging branch. The tree lacks lower branches but you have managed to achieve a result which is pleasing to the eye and 'a little different'

How long did it take to complete the work?
The milk crate might become your trademark like the Kirin crate is to the Japanese

Thanks for the comments guys. Like i said, due to the rain the work was spread over several days but if I had to add it all together it probably took between a day and a day and a half from start to finish.

Really looks great, bit distracted with Jin up the top, but like you say it's easier to take little bit off than to try and glue it back on. Slow and steady. It will be awesome in time.
