I have recently been doing a fair amount of work on a couple of customers bonsai and bonsai collections. One such bonsai was the black pine below that needed a bit of love. I cut a large amount off it to form a structure that the foliage could be built upon in the comming years. Now it just needs a re-pot and a couple of years of candle pruning to get it a bit more full.

Any ideas on pot shapes? I was thinking a deep oval.

Have no idea on pot shapes ( I am hopeless when it comes to picking them) so am very interested in the ideas that will come out as advice

i would have picked a smaller drum pot or Nan-Ban for my liking.

I like the pot it is in - reasonable space for growth as the tree is refined. My final choice would be either round drum very similar to what it is in, but not too shallow, or a semi-formal square pot with concave sides and a band at the lip and base. This makes it look slightly shallower than it is but still gives you space for growth.

I quite like the pot its in at present but I would adjust the planting angle a few degrees to the right when repotting.

Styling looks very good and the pot looks suited.
