I would leave it to grow and then next year carve the stump exactly the way it needs to be.
Where are you finding these amazing stumps?

Good stuff.... great movement and barking... what lovely bark. This is a really nice find and I am sure it will only be a couple of years before it is really showing its worth.

I'm not sure why you're waiting 'til next winter to cut the angle. The sooner you do it, the sooner you can establish your leader. BTW Beautiful curves. Damn I'm jealous!!!

hi gab, thats a great trunk & like you said, you have to do a lot of walking & looking. I walked 5 klm along the avoca river 3 weeks ago, lots of ashes but only found 2 worth digging & they're not as good as that. however, after digging good yamadori for about 15 years, I can tell you that you need to cut it now, otherwise, next year it will be all up there & you'll have to cut it down anyway & lose all the energy that went to the top. just my 2 bobs worth after digging this sort of stuff for so long. that is gonna be a killer tree, eat your heart out ant. cheers, miyagiman.
