This tree has had 3 name changes since I have been working with them, it has gone from Baekia virgata to Babingtonia virgata to now Sannantha virgata.
I still like it though.
This particular tree gets a lot of comments as to whether or not it would be better without the drift wood. I usually answer with I like it so it will stay, it is not a Tanuki which a lot of people think. I have taken a series of pictures which I hope will explain why it has to stay where it is.

I like it Pup, think it adds a lot of character to the tree. If it wasn't there it'd feel like it needed something 'more'

Haven't seen it from other angles, that deadwood really does look nice

It's a stunner, whatever they call it. It think there's a similarity in the twist of the jinn and the twisted texture of the live trunk that ties them together. It would be less interesting without the jinn, for my money. Which definitely couldn't afford it!

Fantastic tree pup, whatever they want to call it.

Maybe some people think the driftwood takes away from the beauty of the living trunk, but it seems so much a part of the tree. And personal preference should always be the deciding factor. Whether it pleases others or not, first & foremost it should please the creator. After all, you are the one who has to look at it everyday.

Not being an expert so not knowing about "styles" etc my comment on the Driftwood is simple.

I think it shows how awesome you are in this art because personally, having it included or not would not detract or add from this tree. Regardless of its inclusion, still spectacular and would be just "different" without it.

And of course photos never do our trees justice. This tree photographs well but its so much better when you are standing in front of it.

Its a good talking point regardless. Maybe if you were to blacken the deadwood a little to resemble more so what can be seen in the outback?

Just a thought. I would happily have it my bench!

A very pleasing tree. I tend to agree with the last comment, if the colour of the dead-wood was more subdued it would be more subtle. There are many full-sizse trees that have this form, and old trunk from eons ago and a new trunk which has grown to take its place. A well appreciated tree Pup. Thankyou for posting. Ash
