Hey Guys,

Just wondering if someone could clarify for me, i see alot of people talking about planting Bonsai in colanders, im just wondering is someone could clarify for me, why?

Is there a benefit to planting in a colander rather than just a pot? I get if your putting it in the ground and it contains the root ball but allows the little roots to head out.

But im unsure if people are using colanders, and then putting the whole thing in large box/pot? Or if it just lives in the colanders? if so, then what happens to the small roots as they stretch out of the colanders?

Cheers!

Air pruning of the roots as it reaches the extremities of the Colander is what we are after. It stops roots from circling the pot and gives a better root system.

Water and ferts in quickly aids growth as well.
