Hey everyone, I recently picked up a very young and small Bonsai from Bunnings for $15 and hoping to get some basic advice on maintance and all that, Im pretty sure for now i should just be watering it, but im not sure if i should repot to allow it to grow more, please help would appreciate any help thank you
Sorry if im confusing or sound very stupid, i have no experience with bonsais but just love the look of them and how peaceful and perfect they grow up to be
also another photo of a older bonsai that my parents got given as a gift, once again they never pruned or anything to it, my grandfather used to before he passed, i recently just trimmed it back as it hadn't been touched in over 4 years besides watering of course

Hi and welcome.
1. Some clearer photos of the bigger tree would help us help you.
It would appear that this tree is big enough to think of a style.
From the brief look nothing jumped out at me. I would think that a few more photo's and a thread of it's own might be a good idea.
Also we need to know what this tree is - from a quick glance I'd say it's some sort of Fraxinus (Ash).
2. This appears to be a really small little tree.
I'd be inclined to just pop this one out in a nice spot in the ground to grow for a few years. "
The idea of this is to thicken the tree to make it look more aged.
At the moment it looks (and is) very young.
If you want to get involved and make yourself an instabonsai (if there is such thing) I'd recommend getting some stock from a proper Bonsai nursery or if you can't get to one of these look at some more mature garden stock to cut back from the big B.
Have a good look around on the Wiki - there is some great information there to get you started.
There is a Bonsai directory too to have a clear view of what stores or clubs are nearest to you.

At this time im unsure of the larger bonsai its a couple decades old I believe and was a gift before i was even born, my family know nothing about bonsais
2. The little juniper, would my best bet to increase growth to plant it in the ground and let it grow freely for a couple years, if so any tips on how to get it out of the current pot and replant without stunning the tree, ill post a photo of a nice spot i have to maybe plant it

Hi
As you are from Perth, I would try to contact Jason or Pup, and they can suggest an appropriate Club for you to join.
Joining a club is the best way to learn the basics. This forum has some very knowledgeable people that can give you advise, but hands on is the best way to learn.

Wait to you see your first bonsai nursery then mate (if you haven't already), its like being in bonsai heaven
I can't recommend enough the value of joining a club, I signed up just last year and have learnt more then I can say in that time. Great people, who are all very friendly and can answer any question you can think of

I'll be there with meegs on sunday too
This is the link to the ausbonsai directory, which I've filtered to show the bonsai nurseries in perth if you feel the urge to have a look:
