I recently saw a juniper skyrocket in my local bunnings and I have had not very good luck keeping junipers alive so ihave. Few questions
Are these good to work with
Can they grow in darwin
Should I even bother

Ni idea on any of those questions, but would Bunnings sell them if the were not viable there?
If they grow in the ground then a pot should be no problem.

I've heard that Bunnings has a national advertising scheme and is therefore required to sell a certain amount of their range of plants in every Bunnings store. From what I've heard this can lead to some stores in areas with climatic extremes having plants which are totally unsuitable for the area.
As for the plant in question here... sorry, I'm not sure if it will grow well in Darwin

they say
Sun Exposure: Full sun preferred, but will tolerate some partial shade as well. Growth rate, and foliage density will both suffer slightly when planted in shady locations. Sometimes has trouble dealing with high heat & humidity, as well as high night time temperatures.

note that in the US, Florida is also tropical / humid and classed as Zone 10 so any plant that works there shodu be good for you too.


So I do not know you will go in Darwin.
Keep you eyes out while driving around and see what does grow well there, or head to local nusery and ask

While in Darwin I grew Junipers commercially. I have no idea of their life expedacancy up there, but they did grow and grew well.

Have you seen the Chinese Gardens at the Casuarina Campus of NTU? They had a bank of J. Procumbans growing in it the last time I was there. Mind you that was a life time ago. Those plants were locally grown as well.

Hey just an input, I picked up a juniper from my local bunnings in perth, very young but that what was I was going for, anyway the older ones half of them were near dead or dying and were kept in very shady conditions, better of going to a bonsai nursery for your trees rather then a place like bunnings
