Repotting with Kanuma
Posted: December 7th, 2013, 7:35 pm
Today i have repotted all my stock "future bonsai" Azaleas
and as most know, I use Kanuma for my Azaleas.
It is a bit late to be doing Azaleas I know, but due to work commitments time is poor at the moment. I am trying to catch up on my spring repotting, and will get there soon
.
For all my Stock trees in grow puts I am happy to use reused Kanuma and i treat it just like my Diatomite. Wash it out in a big bucket and allow to dry out in the sun, Then Sift out the small particles and store for reuse.
Any trees in Bonsai pots i only use fresh Kanuma that I get from Scott Roxburgh. ( now that he is overseas we may have an issue there
).
Assuming the tree is going back in the same pot, I take off 1/3 of the roots then repot into layered Kanuma.
Large size in the bottom then medium and then fine.
Hope this helps some others to decide to use Kanuma for their Azaleas. ( note that Scott also recommends to add 50% pumice to his mix), and when I can get over the other side of sydney I will get some to try as well.
