so yeah i was wondering why my japanese maple hasnt put on any growth? maybe its dead but it hasnt really changed since i bought it in june
its just a stick in the ground with the buds side by side going up the stick, no leaves and the buds arent swelling.
its a stick in a pot at the moment, its a browny colour except at the bottom where its more green, i think its maybe 2 or 3 years old but yeah, nothing happening with it.
didnt bother to put any pics coz its just a stick in a pot, theres no black marks or anything to indicate phyotpthora
am i just being impatient?

One of mine was very slow to bud as well. On closer inspection I noticed some scale on the trunk.
Not sure if that was the cause. It started to bud last week.

Hi,
We've had some weird weather in Perth over the last few weeks. Occasionally really low temps and lots and lots of rain.
Two of my wisteria have just woken this week and my cherry is still yet to wake. My dwarf flowering almond put out buds, then has just sat there for weeks. If cadmium is green then its probably still ok. Have a good look to see if anything sinister is going on, but I wouldn't worry too much. Its been a weird spring. Give it a couple more weeks or try moving it to a sunnier spot

Perhaps someone with more experience can offer us both some ideas to break the dormancy.
Meegs.

no matter what, pics always help. Was it Red Japanese Maple, or was it just a standard green Japanese Maple, do you know? The Red Japanese Maple is easily prone to root rot, and the standard JM also, but more so the Red JM. Make sure the drainage is good, or try adding some sand to your mix if you have them in future.
