Juniper ROR Procumbens

Hi .
this is a Juniper Procumbans I purchased from a nursery some time ago. The tree is growing over a large piece of limestone.
I have done very little with this tree save a repot into the current training pot last autumn. I've just let it grow freely but I am now ready to start thinning the foliage and getting an idea what direction the tree might show me. its by far my best tree and I hope I can do it justice because in my opinion it has the potential to be a really nice tree, especially for a beginner like me.

I have yet to choose a front but I have an idea that the roots and rock combined with trunk movement will be the central focus of this tree.

My plan, which i have just started, is to begin dealing with the abundant foliage and getting an idea of branch structure etc.
I will post more pictures as I do this.
Any ideas or opinions appreciated
cheers
Adrian

Sorry, I don't know why the title is the way it is.

I tried to edit the title heading but can't find the edit button.

Hi Ken, thanks for that. I have started thinning this tree out to find the 'tree within'. Right now its a lovely piece of topiary
More to come

Hi Adrian, one option would be to chop the back and right branches marked with red line. The white dot on the right branch (before the red line) is there to possibly use that branch stub a jin?
The left hanging branch marked in white could be used as a hanging jin (would need slight repositioning)..
The trunk would possibly need a shari as it is a thick trunk with little taper towards the top where the branching starts. The shari could start from the base of the right branch or back branch that are indicated for removal, and work its way down the trunk.
Thin the remaining foliage, select and shape branches for a design with the crown to the left side of the trunk, and then have a hanging main branch below the crown that is framed by the hanging jin branch.
In between the crown and the lowest foliage pad on the main hanging branch, there would also be some foliage stepping down in foliage volume from the bulk of the crown.
It is hard to say from just one pic as there may well be better angles to view the trunk from with likely many different design options. From this pic it does seem that the trunk is leaning back a bit too?
I do like the idea of having the crown and foliage in close to the left of the trunk though. The trunk could also be tilted to the right or left a few degrees so that the trunk is not coming out of the ground straight up (vertical).
Hope you understood the idea without a clear virt? I have not shaped the foliage etc, but I would design the tree from this foliage mass after thinning and branch selection.

Best of luck and whatever you decide, please share the outcome.
Cheers, Dario.

That's quite a nice enabri for a Juni mate

Reduce the foliage a bit and show us what is hidden under there

Sweet Adrian, it will be good to see what direction you take styling wise when the time is right. In the mean time it will also be good to see the pics once you have finished thinning it out
Cheers, Dario.
