I have a privet with some dead wood that I have treated with lime sulphur. I want attach one of the trunks to the dead wood. How long after treating the deadwood should I wait before attaching the live tree??
Thanks in advance
Josh

Hi Josh , mate when i do a Phoenix Graft i try to give the lime sulfur sufficient time to soak in and completely dry before attaching live trunks . In fine warm weather a good week should do it . If it has not completely dried the first few watering's can soften and leach lime sulfur into the soil .
Hope this helps .
Cheers Alpine

Thanks Alpibe. This is part of the tree, original part of tree died and then reshot so all one piece. There are now 2 trunks, one larger and 1 smaller and the dead part, I have carved the dead stump out and want to wrap the smaller trunk around the deadwood to incorporate the deadwood into the main tree. Would I be best to keep it sheltered now till it dries??
Josh.

Hi Josh , i would allow it to dry for a few days at the least . If you happen to damage the bark the lime sulfur can burn that trunk you plan to insert into the groove/carved section .
I have actually washed the lime sulfur off a deadwood trunk 3 days after applying it in warmer weather , to prevent leaching . I didn't plan to dissolve it all together , but it most certain doesn't look like it has been sulfured and will require re-doing .
Cheers Alpine

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep it under cover for a bit and only water the roots. Got to learn to be patient now (insert twiddling thumbs).
Josh.
