guys I may have made a mistake.... or I may have done something awesome!!! lol

I had about thirty or so tiny maples that I got in a box from Pedro Pio, I planted the bigger ones in the ground, stuck some in pots and a few in a forrest setting but the thirty little ones I just bundled together hoping they would fuse into one nice tree. when I got the maples Nick wasn't 100% sure but he thought they were Taiwan Maple and I think most of them are.... except for the tridents that have just popped their buds.

my question is, will Taiwan maples and Trident maples fuse together to create some frankensai?

I did find some information on Wikipedia about inosculation so it sounds like it might work

if it works different growth rates could be a problem sometime down the track.

No reason why not

We graft different types of Azalea and Juniper together, so cannot imagine why not with with Maples.

Different story whether it will look any good, but no harm in trying!

I would like to see that Ken

Taiwan and Trident maples are very similar and probably very closely related so chances are they will graft together. If you only make the branches from one type it should be ok but would look strange with different leaves on different branches.
It would not be too late to take them apart and sort out the species.

I believe ken meant azaleas with azaleas a junipers respectively. Not joining the two species. As for fusing, it really isn't too dissimilar to grafting so as long as you stick within your species then there shouldn't be too much of a reason as to why it wouldn't work, provided that the appropriate care is taken to ensure good joins. Keep us posted though, as I'm currently searching for whips to do the same.

Trees in the ground are what I adore....

One thing that can be tricky when bunching whips together is keeping them all alive .
Ensuring each one is getting enough sun can be tricky.
I am trying it with 6 tridents at the minute.
