Movable Greenhouse

So after moving down form FNQ at the end of last year to the hunter valley, my figs have really been missing the nice weather.

I have felt like building something, so why not a greenhouse for them

This is as far as I got yesterday. Just need to put some wheels on it and the cover. Turned out a lot bigger than i was imaging...
Made it movable as we are only renting and would like move it around so I don't kill one patch of lawn.

Anyone think it will be of any benefits to my trees?
Or just some good woodwork practice for me ;-)

Cheers

I think it looks good and can't imagine it won't be of benefit...the summers up there get cracking hot so a removable cover would be great

Hi 8MadDog8,
Looking good so far. I really like the idea of portability, great for people who don't have the space or their own property for a fixed greenhouse. It might be worth considering not using greenhouse film for your cover unless you have some pitch on the roof to allow water to runoff. If you use polycarbonate sheet roofing such as Laserlite (for both your roof and walls if you like) you should still have a little bit of fall on the roof, a couple of degrees should do it. Also consider adding an air vent at either end or having a mechanism to allow you to leave the cover ajar when it is really hot, it could get to 50 degrees in that enclosure, not even figs like it that hot.

As for a greenhouse benefiting your Figs? Absolutely! Where I live, I need one just to grow PJFs well.

Cheers,
Mojo

What a great idea:)
You will be able to throw A length of shade cloth over it for summer too with ease

And planning to make a fitted shade cloth cover for summer so I don't cook the poor things

Love it MadDog! You could even turn the underneath section into a hen coop.

Thanks for posting mate, looking forward to seeing what you grow/strike in it.

Regards,
Steven

That looks great. What plastic did you use and where did you get it? Also, I think you will need bigger wheels to manouver over rough terrain.

Motorised could also be an option ;) ...just playing AG :)
Good work MadDog, yeah I would also be interested to know what type of plastic you used.
Cheers, Dario.

Just used that plastic tabletop cover stuff that you get from bunnings. Was a little expensive (maybe 70 bux worth) but was easy to work with.
Yeah wanted bigger wheels but they were the widest swivel ones I could find. They seem to work ok so far.
