Hello guys here there is a tree that i bought at the last bonsai sale in kew (bonsai victoria society).....Ive done a little pruning and all the wiring last monday at the last workshop in Yarraville......Everyone loved this little tree but at the same time many people many ideas and now im totally confuse......
1.jpg
For an informal upright Jow suggested to thread graft a branch on the left side ( only if i wont get any bud)
2.jpg
Most of the people loved this front....but i think the best nebari is on the 1st picture
3.jpg
In this last picture i brought the tree a little forward and i think it looks a bit better.....

PLEASE ANY CRITIC IS WELCOME......CHEERS[

I think Jow hit the nail right on the head! then go for ramification.

Perhaps also thread/approach graft a sacrific branch down low on the back to lose a bit of that reverse taper?

BTW what type of tree is it?

photo 3 will work the best if you are going to add a branch as in the photomontage. like I said at yarraville the other night, force feed it, defoliate when its set its leaves are set, & it will pop new shoots all over. a thread graft may work, has anyone tried to do this on an oak yet. I have never needed to, get all the shoots I need the other way. dave.

I agree with Miyagiman. Let it grow wildly for a few months and the cut it back severely. You should get backbuds everywhere.

the only issue Jow didn't change is the appearance of the bar branch. I would remove the back one and shorten the front (working from the photo that is).

I disagree, the bar branch is a part of the crown and is generally accepted. Once you get the ramification in the top it would not be noticeable.

I would definately go with a tree similar to the one Jow has virted for you.

Loving this tree mate, as i did when i saw you buy it. ;)

Using a seedling for the graft would be good because it could be kept on it's own roots while blending and it would otherwise mean using an existing branch for the purpose.

In case you are considering the windswept option, I append a vert. Note the change of angle.

I just don't think they have movement to pull it off. From the image they look straight and static and the eye is drawn to that point. If the tree was never shown in winter silhouette then it can be hidden otherwise it cant be covered.

Also if you look at the branch underneath they both look like they go upwards at the same angle. It could just be the image, but again it keeps the eye there and doesn't allow it to flow over the tree.

i like your virt stymes :!:

although in any case, i would certainly attack that big knob of a trunk where the first branch comes from.

shari up the left side :?: carvi carvi...

nice tree :D

Bar branching yes but high up in the crown should not be a problem that it would be lower down. Also, wire one branch upwards then out and the other downwards and out so the foliage pads are offset and that will minimise the bar. I would tend to wire the branches a bit more down.

I think the tree balances better as an informal upright rather than a windswept and the spread of branching brings out more character and suits the trunk shape.

I don't think the reverse taper is that bad and once the tree has foliage it will not be as obvious. I don't think it is serious enough to detract from the quality of the tree. Overall, the ideas proposed are good and it will be a lovely tree in a couple of years. Good buy.

The suggestion to minimise the lump at the first branch by carving a shari is a good one and that can add character to the tree making a flaw a feature.
