Hi all just wondering if any one knows weather a radiata pine will respond the same as a jbp. When it comes to back budding and needle size reduction :lost:

It is difficult to get back budding on old wood.
Growth habit is very different to black pine. Summer candle cutting should not be done as radiata only get one flush of growth.

Hi,

I prune my radiata twice a year. Once in December and once at about March. Definately more than once a year flush. Back budding is not profuse but happens where there are needles left on towards the end of the tips. One of mine shoots more readily than the other.
