Hi all,
I mentioned in my post, Ligustrum Forest, that I would share how I planted the cuttings.
The reason why I leave the tops on the bottles is to make it easy to feed the cuttings and add water if necessary. The cuttings will only be feed with Seasol until they are established with their own roots.

Hi all,
I gave the cuttings a drink of Seasol this morning. I can already see new shoots appearing. I will post photos latter as they develop.

Me too, will this method be as effective on maples? They will be my test subjects for cuttings this year...

dario muck is usually just clay and spag,i assume thats whats ray use's , there are alot of posts on how people make there own on the site just add clay until the spag holds its self together being in sydney if you dig down far enough you will hit clay. i dont know to much about melbourne tho

worst case you can buy clay if you can source it somewhere else

Hi Dario,
My muck formula is the following. I get some cow manure and place it in a plastic garbage bin fitted with a lid. Put some water over the manure, not to much, and leave it for at least a month. I then mix equal parts of ground clay and the manure to make the muck.

You obviously put a lot of thought into all aspects of bonsai and their horticultural application.
I appreciate your attention to detail as is evident in this thread...it makes sense that everything we do has an impact and that we should always be striving for that impact to deliver the best possible results...viewing your threads inspires me to consider things more.

Yes mate, I get the decomposed bagged. I think I got the last lot from Bunnings. If you collected the manure off a farm, you may have to let it stand for a longer period of time. You don't want it to burn the roots.

Hi all,
I removed one of the bottles today to take a photo. I have five cuttings under this bottle. There are nice healthy new shoots on each of the cuttings. Come Spring, they should all have established good roots, and be ready to plant out as separate trees. The old leaves have wilted a little but when I try to pull them off they are still very well attached.
